2014 Trends NW

Congratulations to Trends NW on their 30th anniversary trade show yesterday. I have attended these trade shows annually for the past several years, and they always rank as one of my favorites. I go to get real estate clock hours, for networking, to meet vendors, and to pick up lots of holiday chotchkies for gifts.

The clock hour training at this year's Trends show was on property management, taught by Tamara Simon. There were lots of good tips on best practices in property management, including the suggestion to take photos of rental unit condition upon move-in and move-out. This tip alone would save hours of aggravation and potential disputes between landlords and tenants.

Other topics covered in the educational classes included forecasts for the multifamily industry in our area, potential legislation on rent control, legal issues around Section 8 housing or working with contractors, tips to speed up leasing, rental rate trends, and the City of Seattle rental inspection program, among other topics.

It is a great place to meet vendors that service the rental market, including software providers, lenders, real estate brokers, contractors, and industry media. Members who joined the Apartment Rental Property Owners and Landlords Association can earn big discounts through Home Depot. And there are always lots of trade show specials from vendors for property owners.

I would recommend this trade show for any landlord or property manager doing business in the Puget Sound area.

Happy Investing!
